We've had a pretty good first two weeks in Texas. It's felt a little bit like vacation since we've spent a lot of time TOGETHER! and seeing new things and not having many real responsibilities or schedule yet.
In the interest of time I'll report the highs and lows.
HIGHS: YMCA has babysitting. I dropped off the kids and would go exercise. Felt good to be sweating again and also to be without kids. A couple of times I also finished working out and then found a quiet corner to make a few phone calls to dr's etc. (see lows). We also swam at the YMCA which was really fun. We discovered the Children's museum and went 6 days in a row. It is a happy place for Calvin. He loved it there. The girls had fun too.
We have really nice neighbors next door. They have a baby, 2 year old and dog. Lexey loves to go over and hold the baby or talk to the mom. Bless her heart! We also have a family 4 doors down with a 5, 3, 2 and brand new baby. They are really nice too. The kids like going over to say hi.
Clare loves riding her bike around. We live on a VERY quiet street and it is totally flat. I wish I had brought my bike too so I could ride with her and let her go really far.
I loved listening to the girls on our first few nights laying in bed trying to figure out how to use "y'all" in a sentence! So cute!
LOWS: When we got to TX I had a couple of prescriptions I needed to get filled for Calvin. Before we left CA it was too early to fill them and insurance/pharmacies are very strict about these controlled substances. Anyway, so I bring my script to TX and am almost out of medication but they wouldn't fill the script here because it was written by and out of state dr. I made an appt with a new dr and took the kids to it. It ended up taking 3 hours and while Calvin was pretty much and angel during most of it, he ended up having a huge meltdown which was very unpleasant to say the least.
It was about this time that a co worker of his at work said, "how's denise like houston"? (this co-worker also recently moved from San diego with his wife who was very outspoken about hating it here!) Dave replied, "I'm not sure, she won't talk to me!" haha. "we've got to get our wives together!" It was a rough few days.
After going to the dr. to get the prescription then I tried to get the prescription filled. I went to 3 pharmacies and nobody had it in stock. I called about 10 more pharmacies. Nobody carried this medicine. So, I called to see if anyone carried another dose (so I could split the pills) and found one. So I went back to the dr. had her re-write the script for another strength and then back to the pharmacy WITH four kids. Not fun. Anyway, that pharmacy didn't have it. They had checked the wrong med. I was about ready to drive back to San Diego and give up on TX. Luckily the pharmacist called around for me and found one with the right medicine and had them check and double and triple check. So we got our medicine just in time. Next time we won't have issues like this because we will be getting our meds filled a week in advance of running out of pills but with the move we were down to the day I used our last pills. Insanity!
Overall, we did pretty well. We are happy to be here!
