Many months ago Dave signed up for the tough mudder with a couple of guys form work. It is a ten mile run with obstacles! He started training for the run a few months ago, starting with one mile (and nearly throwing up afterwards) and then working his way up to 4 to the point where 4 was pretty easy. Then in March on our beach trip Dave hurt his foot. He hasn't been able to run at all since then and his heal has been bothering him pretty continuously. He's come with me on my walks when he's come and even those bother his foot. I thought he should sell his tough mudder ticket but he decided instead just to let his foot rest for two weeks up to the race and then go out and give it his best. Seemed a little crazy for a 10 mile race to go so unprepared but it worked out great. Most people don't run much at all and at best, even if you run, you still stand in line waiting for the obstacles so it didn't require a huge level of running fitness. Dave's team was made up of two neurosurgery residents, Dave and then two girls (one sister and one girlfriend of the neurosurgery residents). The race is suited for groups or 4 or more so it worked out well. Nobody on Dave's team was in amazing shape so Dave didn't have to worry about being a weak link!
It was an ALL DAY event. We left the house around 9 and drove up to the event, about two hours away, went to a parking lot, went to another parking lot, loaded a bus to the event and arrived around noon. Teams were given staggered start times...Dave started the race about 12:15. I had the four kids. We went and signed up for the mini mudder and waited for that to start at 2pm. The kids had a good time. I was proud of them for completing the race. Jo wished she could participate as well.
*love how the girls are holding hands here
In the third and final lap only the kids went into the mud pit!
calvin flipping his long hair out of his eyes
clare tried to go through the mud without getting muddy
After the mini mudder the kids showered off and changed clothes. Then we lost calvin for an hour. Losing Calvin is part of just about every family event.
