Starving children

As I was making dinner a few nights ago the kids all came in and whined about how they were starving and could not wait for dinner. I explained to them that if they were actually starving they would be too sick to whine and would on the floor conserving energy and near death. They would even be considering eating the dog food downstairs and then if they got hungry enough they would even consider eating the dog (this was maybe taking it too far for their age).  I also emphasized that if they were actually starving they would be happy to eat the dinner I cooked instead of telling me it was yucky since they would just be happy to have any food.  They pondered this lecture and came back to the kitchen to pretend to be starving in a more appropriate way that burns less calories.
