Jo is my little buddy. From 8am to 3pm it's just the two of us. We have lots of work to do in that time since once the other kids get home I can't get anything done, so we can party all day, though we wish we could! Most days are for cleaning house, running errands, meetings, appointments, walking or going to the gym and then going to the playground by ourselves or with other friends. At least once a week I try to do my walk somewhere interesting so we can see more of Houston. Those are the funnest days for her. She prefers sitting in the stroller to going to the gym. One day we went and walked around Hermann Park and we were able to walk over and say hi to Dave in between cases which was fun.
When I go to the gym, the YMCA, Jo goes to "the kid area" to play with the other kids. She says "I hate going to the kid area" and really complains about going but once she gets there she has a good time. Today when I picked her up another little girl who she was playing with started crying becuase she was so sad to see Jo leave. They had been reading books to each other, playing ring around the rosises, etc. Jo always seems to make friends when she is there which I love. Also, she watches Disney channel when she is there sometimes. She talks a lot about mickey mouse! She keeps telling Dave "take me to see Micky Mouse". She is very bossy and fully expects to get everything she demands.
She also wants a new bike. Last week when Dave got Clare a new bike she was SHOCKED that Dave didn't get one for her too, saying "daddy, I TOLD YOU to get me a bike too!" She is a little pistol. for sure a strong personality. Not sure we need anymore of those in this house. I think we are a house of all chiefs. Kind of wild.
Jo loves Kolaches. I had never heard of this food before Texas but I guess they are pretty common around here. Anyway, we have a Kolache store right by our house so I often swing by and get Jo a Ham and Cheese Kolache and a big ice water on our way home. It is $1.55. I'm sure it's not the healthiest thing she could eat but it is not fried and it is the perfect size to fill her up. Works for me!
Jo is participating in a joy school this year. It is once a week on Thursday from 10-noon. It is perfect for us both. She loves her school. It is just enough for her to feel very important. The kids to crafts, play and learn a letter, color or number each week. She loves learning the letters. She is so excited to recognize letters around town and in books. There are 4 kids in the joy school so we each teach about once a month. All the ladies in the group are wonderful. The kids are great too and seem to get along really well. It should be a very enjoyable year.
I sure love her!
When you ask her name she says "JoAnne JoJo" (except she can say the J sound so it sounds like DoAnne Dodo)
This is Jo's favorite dress. She wears it EVERY DAY if it is clean. I am amazed it has held up so well. She gets pretty dirty in it (as you can see) and yet it mostly washes out every time!
Jo loves riding her little bike but she also thinks she is ready for a big girl bike!
Favorite place is the playground! She loves the big swings now.
Jo still naps from 1-3 (when I wake her to go get the other kids) about 4-5 days a week. Sometimes we are too busy for nap on the weekend and some days she just isn't ready to go down. I enjoy the nap time to get things done around the house and she does well having her naps. If we skip two days in a row she is really too tired to be as sweet as she can be!
Potty training: Earlier in the summer before we moved Jo potty trained herself. She decided to wear underwear and did really well, not having accidents and being pretty amazing. Still wore diaper for nap and night time. (I hadn't wanted to potty train her before our big move so that's why she took it upon herself to get potty trained!) When we were traveling she got nervous about some of the restrooms at pit stops along they way. I don't blame her! A couple of times we had to just pull over and put a diaper on her and let her pee or poop in a diaper rather than use the bathroom. When we moved into our house the toilets were really gross and yellow so she was still scared to use the bathroom. She would only use one of the two in the house. Then she started to not want to go back into underwear after nap. So basically she wore a diaper to bed. Put on underwear in the morning for a few hours and then back in a diaper by noon! Then she had a couple of accidents so she is back in diapers full time. Whereas a few months ago she was SO OFFENDED if you called her a baby, now she wants to be like a baby! I bought 4 packs of diapers on sale and I am hoping by the time those are gone she will decide to be potty trained again! If this is her manifestation of her stress of moving, so be it. Overall she is doing really well.
I have tons of pics of Jo on my phone which I'll need to download and add later.
